Rick
Fair
Rick was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to
Horace and Pauline Fair. His exposure to gospel music began when he was
just a baby after his dad started singing with local Southern Gospel
Quartets. His mother also influenced his love for music, “I remember
sitting next to my mother in church and listening to her sing. She had a
beautiful alto voice.” Rick’s dad later accepted the call into full-time
ministry during Rick’s childhood and teenage
years. Dr. and Mrs. Fair have been in ministry over forty years. In fact,
at the ripe “young” age of 81, Dr. Fair still preaches when he has the
opportunity.
When Rick was
17 years old, he began singing with local groups in the Birmingham,
Alabama area. At age 20, Rick moved to Tampa, Florida to sing full time
with the Rebels Quartet. He has sung with the nationally known Senators
Quartet and several other groups. Rick met his wife, Connie, who is also a
singer and musician, when he was singing in her home town of Cartersville,
Georgia. They married on May 4th 1985, and made Cartersville
their home. After their marriage, they began singing together and have had
the privilege of ministering in churches all over the southeast. In 1997,
Rick joined Hovie Lister and The Statesmen Quartet. He sang with Hovie for
4 years, until Hovie’s death in December 2001.
Over the years,
Rick has worked in many churches directing music and being involved in
their choir programs. Even though Rick has been an entrepreneur in various
business ventures, he keeps going back to his roots in Gospel Music. He
believes the Lord has placed a calling on his life to carry the Gospel in
song.
During his time
off the road, Rick enjoys spending time with his family. Their son, Mike,
recently received a full football scholarship from Troy University in
Alabama. Their youngest son, David, will likely carry on the music
tradition in the family. He loves to sing and listen to Southern Gospel
Music, sings baritone in the men’s quartet in his high school, and is
first chair tuba in the symphonic band. Rick also has three grown
children, Rickie, Rodney, and Misty. He joined Palmetto State Quartet in
December 2004
