With
a rich history like that of the Palmetto State Quartet it is important
that the story be recorded for future generations of Southern Gospel Music
fans. So much is known about the origin and career of groups such as the
Statesmen and Blackwood Brothers that it would seem they were the only
groups on the road during their heyday. In contrast, even |
|
though they were around during this same
era, very little is publicly known about the history of
the Palmetto State Quartet. Very few of PSQ's
oldest fans could tell you the names of the original
members of the group. This is mainly due to the
fact that the group was formed so long ago that those
who followed the group in those days are either not able to attend concerts or
have passed on.
Keeping this in mind we began
this series of history lessons with
a complete
overview of The Palmetto State Quartet, from it's inception through
all of the personnel changes, to bring you up to date with the modern day
group. We'll continue this monthly series with a biographical sketch of
each individual who has been a member of The Palmetto State Quartet. You'll learn where they came from as well as where they are today and what
major contributions they've made to the Palmetto State Quartet and
Southern Gospel Music along the way. |

11/09/04 to add photos and correct the statement that
all original members had passed. While a majority
have gone home, we've learned that Malone Thomason is
living. An interview is forthcoming. |
