Jamie Dill (April 25, 1918 - July 23, 1987) began playing piano for Palmetto State Quartet in 1947, contrary to the information that I posted in Past to Present it is really not clear whether Jamie was the original pianist for the group. A book titled "Through the Years with the Palmetto State Quartet" states, "Jamie was often referred to by members of the quartet as 'our den mother.' The title fit him quite well as his first piano playing job was to play for the Melodyaires while their pianist was on maternity leave."

Jamie served as a deacon at his home church, First Assembly of God in Greenville, SC. He became the manager of Palmetto State Quartet in 1960 when the group reorganized. Jamie and his wife Ruby had a daughter, Terri, and a son, Stanley. Jamie was preceded in death by Ruby. The whereabouts of their children are unclear.

Editors Note: Finding information about the earliest members of Palmetto State Quartet has proven to be a real chore. This is the best info that I've been able to gather about Jamie Dill. Other members have been even more difficult. All of this information comes from a book called "Through the Years with the Palmetto State Quartet" that was distributed by the group quite a number of years ago. If you have a copy you're among a small group of Southern Gospel Fans who has one. I don't have one myself. I believe Charlie Waller put the book together for the group. Special thanks to John Crenshaw for the info. Check out Crenshaw's new page on the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion website.
