CD Reviews
The following review was printed in the June 2005 issue
and appears here courtesy of Singing News Magazine.
The Palmetto State Quartet has a
new project for Sonlite Records, When It Pours God Reigns. There is some
fine quartet singing found here, ranging from a straight-ahead traditional
Southern Gospel quartet style to some ambitious arrangements that have a
jazzy feel. But beyond the singing, there are some great songs found on this
CD. “He’s Real,” “If You Had The Only Key,” “Mercy Met Grace,” and “Glory
Can’t Tell It All” are definite highlights, but also give a good listen to
“What A Privilege to Know Jesus,” “When It Pours God Reigns,” “My Resting
Place,” “I Shall Not Be Moved,” “Living In The Sunlight,” and “Keep My Eyes
On Him.”
Though often recognized for their
high-energy presentations, the Palmetto State Quartet has quietly been
gathering momentum with better and better song selection. This new recording
represents a new era for the quartet – armed with strong on-stage talent and
more spiritually-deep material than ever before, the Palmetto State Quartet
is prepared to move to a new level of excellence.
