Jack
Pittman To Be Inducted Into SGMA Hall Of Fame
April 3, 2006
Jack Earl Pittman, 43 year member
of Palmetto State Quartet will be inducted into the
Southern Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame on
Thursday, October 12, 2006.
The
induction ceremony is the culmination of a full day of
activities to be held at
Dollywood, the home of the
SGMA Hall
of Fame and Museum.
Jack Pittman began
singing lead with
Palmetto State Quartet in 1954. In 1987, following the death of the
groups founder, manager, and pianist Jamie Dill, Jack took over management
duties for the quartet. He would fulfill these duties until his retirement
from full time singing in 1997. Jack is duly recognized for his longevity
with Palmetto State Quartet, singing and traveling with the same group for
roughly 43 years. Though his tenure was briefly interrupted in time of
illness, Jack was faithful to his calling and talents.
Jack was instrumental in
the 1988 formation of what is known today as the
Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. The reunion, now produced and hosted by SGMA
Executive Director Charles Waller, is generally accepted at the precursor to
the Gaither Homecoming phenomenon.
The current members of
Palmetto State Quartet would like to offer our heartfelt thanks and sincere
gratitude to those responsible for honoring Jack Pittman's lifetime of
achievement. We feel blessed to have been chosen to follow in the paths
firmly laid out for us by Palmetto State Quartet’s “Great White Father.” Congratulations Jack! We’re proud of you! |
